The majority of armor plates are based on the US Military's medium-sized SAPI plate, which measures 9.5”W x 12.5”H.
10 x 12" is closest to a Medium SAPI or Large Swimmer cut, so most vests designed to these sizes will fit a 10x12" plate.
They made this request for good reason. According to the TRADOC representatives with whom we were working at the time, 80% of the armor plates purchased by the US Department of Defense are size medium ESAPI armor plates or 9.5" x 12.5".

People shorter than 5'2” (157.5 cm) will be best suited with 9” x 9” or 8” x 10” plates. People taller than 5'2” under 6'3” (190.5 cm) will best be suited with 10" x 12" plates. People taller than 6'3” can readily employ 11x14 (280x356).
The most common armor plates' size is 10x12 and it should be enough to cover vital organs for more than 80% of the population. However, it is better to make a couple of quick measurements to determine what plates are best for you.

What are 9 inch plates used for?
A lunch plate is slightly smaller than a dinner plate, averaging about nine inches in diameter. These are traditionally used at luncheons where food portions are smaller. They are also best for typical lunch foods, such as sandwiches and finger foods.

The US military uses ceramic plates for their rifle-rated plates. Having a plate for protection prevents blunt force trauma and stops rounds outside of Kevlar's certified threat level of protection.
The Soldier Plate Carrier System (SPCS), known commercially as the KDH Magnum TAC-1, is a plate carrier developed for the U.S. Army which provides protection in accordance with if not greater than, the Improved Outer Tactical Vest. The SPCS is a lighter alternative to the IOTV, with increased mobility and comfort.

Medium-sized means neither large nor small, but approximately halfway between the two.
The differences between Olympic and Standard Weights
Standard Weight Lifting bars are one inch (25mm) in diameter on the ends and the middle shaft. They are made to take standard weight plates, which have a 1”/25mm diameter hole. This means they fit snugly and will not wobble about.
The most important thing is to measure your plate correctly and accurately. In order to do that, you'll need a tape measure, and a flat surface to lay your plate on. Lay your plate flat on the surface, and stretch your tape measure across the center of your plate.
Appetizer Plates: These small plates are used to serve appetizers or amuse-bouches at the beginning of a meal that has multiple courses. An appetizer plate size ranges between 6" and 8" in diameter to accommodate petite or single starters.
What is a 10 inch plate called?
Dinner Plate
It is used to serve the main course at all meals, formal and informal. Modern dinner plates measure from 10 to 11 inches across.
Side plate (also bread and butter plate, B&B plate, quarter plate, cheese plate) has a diameter of 7 inches (18 cm), also used as an underplate for soup bowl.
Fits 24mm wide medium (12.5" H x 9.5" L x 2" W) and large (13.25" x 10.25" x 2.25") SAPI plates.
Size 4- 8 is about a medium and 10–14 is considered large. 16–18 is XL and above that is what is usually considered “plus” sizes.

How heavy are medium SAPI plates?
SAPI is capable of defeating up to three hits from small arms fire up to 7.62mm at muzzle velocity. The weight of both protective inserts is 8.0 pounds (medium plates).

In the US they use 45 lb bars and plates. So one plate (per side) is 135 lbs, two plates is 225 lbs, three plates is 315 lbs, four plates is 405 lbs, five is 495 lbs, six is 585, seven is 675 and so forth.
Appetizer Plates
We recommend using a plate that is around 8 inches for an appetizer plate. An appetizer plate is also great for family-style meals, where sharing is encouraged.
They may also be used for desserts. Bread and butter plates are generally 5" to 7” in diameter. Dessert/pie plates are often similar in size to salad plates and usually feature more decoration than a dinner plate.
What size are most dinner plates? Traditionally, a standard dinner plate has always had a diameter of 10.5 inches. In recent years, however, increasing numbers of restaurants have chosen to use larger 11 or 12 inch plates.

Here is a general guide on selecting the size of the body armor plates. The most common sizes of the “Shooter Cut” bulletproof plates are 8 x 10 in., 10 x 12 in., and 11 x 14 in. 32-35 in. S (8 x 10 in.)
For short missions, especially in the open field or when the strength of the enemy is well known, having NIJ Level III+ hard plates with limited auxiliary armor is the best. It lets the soldiers hit fast and strong without allowing much return fire at all.
Why army number plates are different?
As discussed earlier, Military vehicles are not registered with any RTO or the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. These vehicles are registered under the Ministry of Defence. So, they have their separate Identification system and Number plate codification procedure.
(2) Orthopedic hardware, including plates, pins, rods, wires or screws used for fixation and left in place; except that a pin, wire or screw not subject to easy trauma is not disqualifying.
SAPI body armor panels are made of Ceramics, and as far as protection levels are concerned, in terms of the National Institute of Justice, they are level III plates. This means that they will stop the most popular intermediate rifle rounds including 5.56×45, 7.62×39, and 7.62×51 NATO or a 308 Winchester round.

Dinner: When serving a meal, dinner plates range in size from approximately 8.75 inches to 9.75 inches and are sized for entrees or assorted food selections.
The evidence is that the larger plate you eat from, the more food you serve on it and the more you serve, the more you eat. Simple but true. I recommend a 10 inch or 25cm diameter dinner plate and our plates are designed to demonstrate two distinct portion sizes on the one plate.
Proper Use:
Weights 10lbs and 15lbs are not designed to be dropped when doing strength training unless combined with heavier weights (25lbs, 35lbs, 45lbs, and 55lbs). Dropping 10lbs or 15lbs plates alone above the hip will result in cracking or breaking. Failure to use properly will void the product warranty.
